International Polar Bear Conservation Centre (IPBCC)

For a taste of what you'll see at the Visitor Interpretive Centre at the International Polar Bear Conservation Centre, check out this video from Centric Productions who produced a number of interactive videos for the interpretive centre.

International Polar Bear Conservation Centre (IPBCC)International Polar Bear Conservation Centre

The International Polar Bear Conservation Centre opened at Assiniboine Park Zoo on January 23, 2012. It is a key component of the new Journey to Churchill exhibit currently under construction at the Zoo as part of the Assiniboine Park Conservancy’s overall $200 million redevelopment plan.

The IPBCC will help the Zoo achieve its goal of actively contributing to environmental and wildlife education, research, and conservation.

Visitor Interpretive Centre

When you visit the Zoo, be sure to stop by the interactive visitor interpretive centre located within the IPBCC to learn about polar bears, the Arctic ecosystem, climate change, and what you can do to reduce your impact on our environment.

What you'll see ...

  • informational displays on a wide range of topics including polar bears and climate change
  • video interviews with polar bear researchers and conservation managers
  • short videos about the history and purpose of the IPBCC featuring Zoo staff and Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship staff
  • fun facts about polar bears in answer to questions posed by Winnipeg students
  • interactive games that test your knowledge of bears and climate change
  • touchable objects and artifacts

The IPBCC has been made possible thanks to the financial support of the Province of Manitoba and the generous contributions of private donors who have supported our Imagine a Place Campaign. Watch our Journey to Churchill video to learn more about this world-class exhibit, the International Polar Bear Conservation Centre, and the other changes in store for you at Assiniboine Park Zoo!
