International Polar Bear Conservation Centre (IPBCC)The International Polar Bear Conservation Centre opened at Assiniboine Park Zoo on January 23, 2012. The modern new facility is a key component of the new Journey to Churchill exhibit currently under construction at the Zoo as part of the Assiniboine Park Conservancy’s overall $200 million redevelopment plan. With the financial support of the Province of Manitoba and in partnership with Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship, the International Polar Bear Conservation (IPBCC) will help the Zoo achieve its goal of actively contributing to environmental and wildlife education, research, and conservation. Activity at the IPBCC is focused in three areas:
The IPBCC is a state-of-the-art facility that will ensure Manitoba remains a centre of global influence in polar bear conservation while providing a unique experience for Manitoba families and visitors alike. The IPBCC receives guidance from a Management Advisory Committee, appointed jointly by the Province of Manitoba and the Assiniboine Park Conservancy.
