Join us for a celebration of Brazilian culture during Carnival at The Leaf! Get ready to immerse yourself in the vibrant rhythms and colourful traditions of Brazil as you enjoy entertainment from Viva Brasil Canada, a Folkorama Performer.

Where: Inside the biomes

Time: Bars open at 6:30 pm, performances at 7:00, 7:30, 8:00 and 8:30 pm.

The shows will include traditional/folk songs and dances of Brazil such as:

Batucada: is a substyle of samba and refers to a percussive style, usually performed by an ensemble, known as a bateria. Batucada is characterized by its repetitive style and fast pace. Like samba, the batucada is a Brazilian musical expression with African roots.

Capoeira: dancelike martial art of Brazil, performed to the accompaniment of call-and-response choral singing and percussive instrumental music. It is most strongly associated with the country’s northeastern region.

Maculelê: an explosive Afro-Brazilian warrior dance created by African slave workers on the sugarcane plantations in Northeast Brazil. The dance’s choreography and music are based on the movements and drum rhythms that emerged during harvest seasons, in which slaves used machetes to harvest the sugarcane. Though the dance may feature real machetes, sticks are often used it has become a tradition to use sticks in place of machetes.

Berimbau: The berimbau is a traditional Angolan musical bow that is commonly used in Brazil. It consists of a single-stringed bow attached to a gourd resonator and is played with a stick and a coin or stone to create different tones and rhythms.

Performances are included with Leaf admission. Book your tickets here!
