The Leaf Rules

The following rules are in place for the safety of visitors, plants, and animals. They apply to all areas of the building unless otherwise indicated.

Entry into the building affirms your agreement to abide by these rules. Violation may result in removal from the biomes or building.

If at any time during your visit you are made to feel uncomfortable, unwelcome, or unsafe, please report your concern to an employee, volunteer, or contact Security at 204-927-8000. You may also email your concerns to info@assiniboinepark.ca.

Code of Conduct

Assiniboine Park Conservancy strives to create a safe and welcoming environment for all visitors. Unsafe or disrespectful actions towards plants, animals, visitors, staff, volunteers, or Park property will be addressed directly by staff or Park Security. Any form of discrimination will not be tolerated.

  • Please treat our plants and animals with respect.
  • Do not pick or damage plants, feed or touch butterflies or fish, knock on windows, or throw objects into displays.
  • Do not throw coins or other objects into the pond.
  • Stay on marked pathways. Do not climb on decorative rocks or rock walls.
  • Never cross, climb, sit or rest your children on any railings or safety barriers. They are there for your safety. 

Photography in the Biomes

Professional, amateur, and hobby photography/videography is permitted in the biomes at The Leaf, with the following restrictions:

  • All visitors, including photographers, are required to present a valid admission ticket or member ticket to enter the biomes.
  • When taking photos or videos you may not cause any disruption to other visitors.
  • You may not block pathways, cover signage, or enter garden beds.
  • Use of electrical outlets is not permitted.
  • Professional photography equipment (e.g. tripods, monopods, lighting, rigs) is not permitted unless part of a formal booking. Click here for information regarding booking a semi-private or private photography session. 

Failure to follow these rules may result in removal from the biomes.

Admission to the Biomes

  • A valid admission ticket or member ticket is required for entry to the biomes.
  • Memberships are non-transferable. Learn more about our membership program.
  • Tickets are valid for one-time use only, unless otherwise indicated.
  • We reserve the right to inspect packages, bags, backpacks, and containers.
  • During your visit you may be filmed, videotaped, or photographed. Your admission to the biomes serves as permission for use of your image by the Assiniboine Park Conservancy for promotional purposes.

No Smoking

  • The Leaf is a smoke free facility. This applies to the entire building.
  • The no smoking policy applies to cigarettes, pipes, cigars, and alternative smoking devices such as e-cigarettes or ‘vaping’.
  • Smoking is permitted outside, at least 8 metres from the building entrances. Receptacles are in place at those locations.

Behaviour

  • Shirts and shoes are required.
  • Disruptive or dangerous behaviour will not be tolerated.
  • Parents/guardians/chaperones are responsible for the behaviour of children in their care.
  • Children under 12 must be accompanied by a responsible guardian.
  • Please be kind and dispose of any garbage or recycling in the appropriate containers.

The following items are not permitted anywhere in The Leaf:

  • Roller blades, roller skates, heelies, skateboards, child scooters, hover boards
  • Bicycles, tricycles, and unicycles
  • Helium balloons
  • Balls or frisbees
  • Drones
  • Illegal substances and items

Additional biome restrictions:

  • Balloons of any kind are prohibited.

Pets and Service Animals

  • Pets on leash are permitted in the Grande Allée, the main hallway that passes through the building.
  • Pets are not permitted in the biomes, Gather Craft Kitchen & Bar, or elsewhere in the building.
  • Service animals on leash are permitted in all public areas of the building, including the biomes.
  • Pets left in a car will result in Animal Services being called.

A service animal is defined as an animal that is individually trained to assist or perform tasks for a person with a disability.
